KiloScribe Inscription Tools: How to Inscribe a Hashinal

In this comprehensive guide, we introduce you to KiloScribe Inscription Tools, a simple yet powerful platform that makes it easy for anyone to inscribe Hashinals. This guide teaches how to inscribe a single Hashinal, not a Hashinal collection. For a smooth experience, we always recommend using a computer. While mobile devices might work, we do not recommend using one for this guide.

Step 1: Selecting a file

Before you begin, ensure your HashPack wallet is connected to the KiloScribe Dapp. Smaller files incur lower transaction fees (e.g., a 30KB vs. 2MB file wouldn’t have the same fees).

Please note that “Hashinal” and “Immutable Hashinal (HCS-1)” are the default options for the fields “Select Inscription Type:” and “Select Hashinal Type.” Since we are showing you how to inscribe a single Hashinal, we need those options. However, for a different inscription and Hashinal type, you may need to change these options accordingly.

On the left part of your screen, click any of the options provided to select and upload the file of your choice and wait for it to be uploaded. You can inscribe anything from a PNG to a fully functioning game written in HTML.

Step 2: Creating, Editing, and Uploading of Metadata

NFT metadata is a crucial component of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), providing detailed information about the token’s unique attributes. It typically includes properties such as the name, description, image, and other attributes that define the NFT’s characteristics. Include these to provide more valuable context. Opensea has a great article about metadata here.

Before inscribing any Hashinal on KiloScribe, you can create a new HIP-412-Compliant Metadata or upload an existing one.

Important: NFT metadata is usually specified in a JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format.

There are two options available in this step. If you already have one, you can select the “Upload Metadata File” HIP-412 Compliant Metadata or select the “Edit Or Create Metadata” option to create one. You should see:

Adding Hashinal’s Attributes

The " Attributes " part contains specific characteristics that provide more details about your NFT. Although this field is optional, we highly recommend including it.
